Browned Butter Cookie Bars

Tonight was hometowns on the Bachelorette–literally my favorite episode of every season! I wish I could share my thoughts on the episode but it’s almost midnight and I’m coming off of a pizza/sugar high so my brain is pretty fried. And let’s be real, you all want to get right to the good stuff–this recipe. I love browned butter and the flavor is so good. Added bonus, these bars could not be easier to make. Hopefully you all enjoy, too!

Browned Butter Cookie Bars

adapted from:

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Ingredients:

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

¾ cup brown sugar

¼ cup white sugar

2 tsp vanilla extract

2 eggs

1 cup chocolate chips

2 cups all purpose flour

½ tsp salt

½ tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Mix together flour, salt, baking powder, & baking soda in bowl and set aside
  3. Browning butter: In a medium sized pot, continuously stir butter over medium/high heat. The butter will bubble and foam, turn golden, and then start to brown. ALWAYS KEEP STIRRING!  The butter should have a nutty smell and be fairly brown. Once that happens, remove from heat.
  4. Let butter cool slightly (~5 minutes) and then add sugars to pot and mix well
  5. Add in vanilla and eggs and stir until combined
  6. Add flour mixture to butter mixture and stir until combined (don’t over mix!)
  7. Fold in chocolate chips
  8. Grease and 9×13 pan and pour batter into pan
  9. Bake at 350 for 15-16 minutes (don’t over bake!)
